About Tinctures

What is a tincture you may ask? It is an extraction of a plant in alcohol. I use the “folk herbalist” method of making tinctures. Meaning I use fresh harvested plants, extracted in 100 proof vodka and infused  for 6-12 weeks then strained. 

A couple of things to know: 

All of the plants are harvested sustainably, wild crafted or garden grown. I look for ways to give back and practice reciprocity and gratitude. 

Fresh plants have alcohol soluble properties and water soluble properties. Using 100 proof vodka means the vodka is 50% alcohol and 50% water. Creating a perfect environment to extract all the healing goodness from the plants.  

Time is truly the secret ingredient. Giving the plants & alcohol the time they need to infuse together creates an alchemical process that is magical and complex. 

There is a deep intelligence at work in the medicinal plants that has been observed over the course of human history. All of the plants I work with have traditions of use that are thousands of years old.
